File Recovery in Windows Vista if Bootrec.exe Can’t Resolve Startup Issues
Author: Garry Thomson
You might come across a number of issues while starting up your Windows Vista computer. These issues could be related to MBR (Master Boot Record), BCD (Boot Configuration Data) store and boot sector. Startup issues might prevent your system to boot up and thus you can not access files from your hard drive. This behavior of Microsoft Windows results into critical file loss situations and require Windows Data Recovery to be sorted out.
Startup issues in Windows Vista can be resolved with the help of Bootrec.exe utility in the Windows RE (Windows Recovery Environment).
This tool can troubleshoot and repair the below items in Microsoft Windows Vista:
MBR
Boot Sector
BCD store
Damage or issues with these Windows Vista items generally cause startup problems.
When you attempt to troubleshoot startup issues using Windows RE, you should first use Startup Repair feature in System Recovery Options dialog box. If Startup Repair does not fix the problem or you need to troubleshoot more steps, use Bootrec.exe utility to perform File Recovery.
To run Bootrec.exe utility, follow the underwritten steps:
Insert Windows Vista installation DVD in disk drive and restart the system.
Press a key when you’re prompted.
Choose a language, time, currency, keyboard or input method and click Next.
Select Repair your computer.
Choose the OS that you wish to repair and click Next.
In System Recovery Options dialog box, select Command Prompt.
Type Bootrec.exe and press Enter key.
Bootrec.exe tool supports a number of options such as /FixMbr, /FixBoot, /ScanOs, and /RebuildBcd. Select an option, which is appropriate for your situation.
Though, Bootrec.exe is a useful utility, but in some situations like severe file system corruption, system partition damage and partition table corruption like situations, it may not help you. In such case, the problem persists and you need to go for Windows Data Recovery Software to get your missing, lost or inaccessible files back.

What I understand is you have 2 OS after recovery, dear when you had done this recovery may be you have click for new install new, which must be upgraded anyways there is a manual way to delet this asking stuff but still you will be having some files from older OS , so better backup, Format drive C/ which is default for OS and reinstall your OS , with this your Os will be genuine and will not ask for key again. Hope you are using Genuine copy..
log into safe mode and modify your bootloader.
or put the hdd in another computer and do the same.
The Windows Recovery Console is used when you have an issue that cannot be solved from within Windows… for example, if your install of Windows is hitting a BSOD crash (Blue Screen of Death) and you need to run ChkDsk to repair any corruption, you could do it from the recovery console.
end of line
You may have to hit a different button other than F10. It depends on the brand of computer. HP is F10. Dell I think is F8. I have restored my computer tons of times and was successful. Just try hitting F10 repeatedly for 5 seconds or so after you turn on the computer.
Windows XP Home – DOS at startup says I have 2 same OS. How do I delete the bad one? I did a CD Recovery.?
I think I have 2 Windows XP Home OS in my computer. I need to delete the bad one.
My Windows XP Home would not run after I had loaded a PC game, and I used my CD Recovery disk. During the reload process, the program would not accept the license key saying it is not valid. However, I managed to complete the recovery process. Now, at start-up a DOS display is asking to select one of the same Windows XP Home editions listed. I selected the first one (done by the recovery). My Windows XP works but now I always get a message saying Windows is not genuine and that I must activate it (and I have x-number of days to do it). I think, somehow, the earlier defective Windows was not deleted (license key still active) when the C-drive was reformatted and now I have 2 instances of Windows XP Home in my computer. How do I delete the bad OS, and so I can use my license key again? Or, do I have a different problem?
Windows XP Recovery Disc?
Hey guys i cant seem to find my windows recovery disc i might have lost it but what im trying to use it for is to clean out my current windows xp and make it so that the computer is new like it came right out of the box. i checked my computer for the recovery partition but cannot find it even when i press f10 on startup there is no choice of system recovery and when i click system recovery on all programs it requires me to insert the cd. is there anyway that i can do all of this without the cd
Had Windows 2000 and XP loaded. Changed OS to Xp under startup/recovery and rebooted. Now it wont reboot. Help?

I need to create a windows xp recovery disk using vista, someone please help?
My HP laptop won’t get past the startup screen, it shows windows/system32/config/system, and it wont go past that. My desktop has vista and I was wondering if I could create a restore disk for XP using Vista because I don’t have one for XP.
I have a Gateway Solo 5300 laptop and I am seeing Microsoft Windows Recovery Console on the screen in startup.?
I always sees on the screen when I am booting up [ Microsoft Windows Recovery Console] and Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. I selected the latter as I always do. But I am interesting to know what the recovery console is and what it is used for, and when can I use it if needed. Give me in details as brief as possible.
