Finger print readers are ‘packages’ provided by the machines manufacturer. Windows does not have integrated support for this ‘bio-metric’ aspect as yet, but “7″ will.
Go to All Programs and look for your machines Security, or Utilities package.
Note that “Fast user switching”is not available with your current config., but will be after your change to the traditional log in variety. Find that in User Account settings.

IF you got a Windows XP CD, boot off of it…and when it comes to the first screen to Install Windows or Repair, Choose R for repair. It should take you to the command prompt…if it asks you which windows installation you want, type 1 then enter…then at the command prompt type fixboot then enter, it will say it has replace the boot sector…then at the command prompt again type chkdsk /r and let it do its thing might take a few minutes. When thats done type exit and the computer should restart, see if that fixes your problem.

    Go
Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > [Edit]
You should see 2 lines/instances listed under “[operating systems]”
Delete the line referring to the now unavailable OS and the line relating to “Timeout” (this determines how long you have before selecting the OS to boot).
Alernatively you can find boot.ini in the root of your C: drive and edit it in notepad directly.
NB make sure you know which OS exists (existed) on each partition before editing/deleting anything.
Before you go ahead you might want to look here

Reboot, and tap the ‘F8′ button on startup a couple of times until your boot menu appears.

How do I startup windows XP Professional in safe mode?

  • Jaime K says:

My desktop has Windows XP Professional. Upon startup, why doesnt it display the logon screen?
Instead of the logon screen, it displays the Windows Advanced Options Menu. I tried selecting Last Known Good Configuration but that didn’t work. It just went on to display the XP logo and then went back to the Windows Advanced Options Menu. Selecting any of the other options (Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Start Windows Normally) gives the same result. Will somebody please give me a solution to this problem?
